Uuden Musiikin kilpailu (Contest for New Music) is a music competition that selects Finland’s entries for the Eurovision Song Contest. The show is organized by the Finnish broadcaster Yleisradio (Yle). For the honor of UMK’s ten years anniversary in 2021, they organized a design contest for a trophy that will be handed to the winner. This award will be recycled from the winner to the next winner every year.
My winning design was one of the two finalists for which the public could vote between 5-16.10.2020. The award works in a similar way as snow globes. When shaken, the glitter will fall over the logo of UMK like the confetti over the winner on stage. I also designed a container for the trophy for easy storage.
I am so grateful for this opportunity and could not be more proud of the team that I had the pleasure to work with in order to create the trophy. Such talented people: Protohouse Finland / Aki Mertsola (Assembly, manufacturing of stainless steel- and inner parts), Promec / Timo Juntunen (Mechanical design for inner part & CAD-images), Seppo Nauha (Birch handle and container), Lasismi / Kaappo Lähdesmäki (Glass globe) and Laser Quality Markings Salo / Kim Nivalinna (Laser engravings).
The Finland’s representative for the Eurovision 2021 in Rotterdam was selected in the final of UMK 20.2.2021. The 2021 winner is Blind Channel with a song Dark side.
